Update: Chilly got his surgery and it was successful and now he is undergoing physical therapy to stretch his tendons, ligaments and muscles.
Chilly is a very sweet young malamute who needs a fresh start on life in a big way! The animal control officer in the city he lived in received a report of a vicious dog. When she went to investigate what she found was a very sweet dog who was staked on a chain on a cement pad who was in dire need of medical attention. His rear legs looked severely deformed preventing him from being able to stand up fully in his rear. The owner stated that they had been through several medical hardships with their human family members and did not have the funds to get Chilly the care that he needed, or to even get him in to get a full assessment on what the actual issue was. Animal control tried to persuade them to release Chilly to them at that time but they did not agree. After several months animal control went back out to do a recheck and found that the situation had not improved and the owners were struggling to be able to feed Chilly. They were finally able to convince the owners to release Chilly to them. They reached out to us at Moonsong Malamute Rescue to see if we could help with Chilly and his needed care. We took him to our orthopedic specialist and had a full evaluation done. The great news is with surgery, Chilly can be fixed! His kneecaps are located in the wrong spot which is what is preventing him from being able to stand erectly in his rear. However the surgery is estimated to cost around $5,000, funds that we desperately need to raise. Chilly just turned one year old in November 2017, and we would love to give him corrective surgery so he can have a long pain free life!
