Hey! Hey! Hey! Don’t scroll past this sweet fuzzy face without saying hello! I’m Bella, a spunky, happy young pup who came to Moonsong just in the nick of time. I had a great home with a couple who loved me but as the months went by, I started losing weight like I was on Oprah Winfrey’s weight loss gummies. It was a scary time for my paw-rents not knowing what was going on. They took me to two vets and finally the last one was able to find out what was happening but unfortunately they were unable to afford my treatment so they thought their only recourse was to ‘let me go’. Thank DOG for Moonsong, Within only a couple hours, I was in their care and off to a new healthy life. Let me tell you a little about me and then a little about what the vet found.
I am just a little over a year old, and all Malamute. Even with my weight problem, I am still a very happy, bouncy little girl. I don’t like loud boisterous dogs but do like to play with ones who aren’t too noisy. I am also good with cats since I have lived for about a year with two of them. Oh and kids are the best…love them all. Older hoo-mans are ok too. I really enjoy being around my hoo-mans but still need a little schooling in the house training area. I am really not a digger so don’t expect me to help with your landscaping plans. You can expect a very loving, playful girl who just wants a home, family and someone to love me. I will reciprocate the love in my big Mally fashion.
As far as the vetting goes, the last vet did some tests on me and found that I have EPI or Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency…blah blah blah… or in other words my pancreas doesn’t produce bile which is needed to digest my food…hence my losing weight. All I need is a special enzyme supplement but I will need it for the rest of my life. Moonsong found the supplement for me and it’s really not that expensive. The vet says that once I am started on it, I should start gaining weight and live a normal life with no other pancreas problems. The lack of nutrients may have stunted my growth a little but what’s better than a Mini-Mal with big Mally attitude! My contact mom would be happy to answer any questions you may have about all of this. All you need to do is ask.
Bella is currently in boarding at a wonderful facility where they have knowledge of EPI but she would benefit being in a loving home where she can get the love and attention she deserves and get on the road to recovery faster. If you are looking for a young female (she does still need spayed), please don’t let the EPI scare you away. It is manageable with nothing more than a supplement added to her food just like you would joint meds or probiotics.
