Are you ready for a Northern Breed Dog to join your life?
We’re so excited that you are interested in bringing a Northern Breed Dog into your home. It’s people like you that help provide a quality and loving life for these gentle giants. Rescuing them from a shelter or a temporary home with one of our fosters has a huge impact on their lives and yours.
Adopting from Moonsong Malamute is a large commitment. We have a thorough application process to help ensure a good fit. We will always take our dogs back; however, we ask that you give the dog a minimum 30-60 days to settle into your home.

Adopting a Northern Breed Dog is a serious commitment. Please make sure you meet our minimum requirements below before completing an application.

We will not adopt if:
Minimum Requirements
- You are under 23 years of age.
- You do not have a well fenced yard. Well fenced is defined as a minimum height of 5′ tall (some dogs will need a higher fence) with no gaps or spaces over 3″ wide, and an equally sturdy gate that cannot be lifted off its hinges easily, and latches securely (preferably one that can be kept in place with a sturdy clip or padlock). Invisible fences are invisible, hence the name. They won’t protect your pet from other animals or malicious people, nor will they stop your pet from killing another animal that crosses into that area. Many Mals will take the “hit” to get out of these.
- You intend to use aversive, negative and outdated training methods and devices on the dog. These devices can include choke chains, prong and shock/vibration collars. We are happy to help educate why these methods are considered adverse.
- There are children under the age of 8 living in your home (there may be exceptions, depending on the dog, please read the available dog descriptions carefully).
- You are unable or unwilling to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and proper care for a pet
- You cannot provide a minimum total of 45 minutes of daily exercise for the dog.
- You expect the dog to live outside full time.
- You have a low tolerance for dog hair.
- You or anyone living in your household have ever been charged with a sex crime, animal cruelty, or domestic battery.
- You own an un-altered pet over the age of 2 that is not shown or proven in the conformation ring. You must intend to alter the pet shortly after it reaches the age of 2 or we reserve the right to void the adoption and bring the dog back into rescue.
- You rent and cannot provide a letter from your landlord that you can have a pet over 60 lbs.

Adoption Application
Please answer all the questions – if a question is not applicable to you, use N/A. Submitting an incomplete, false or inaccurate form could result in you being denied the chance to adopt our Northern Breed Dog(s). Please note that it is our policy to only adopt out to applicants from Idaho or our neighboring states of Montana, Wyoming, Utah and northern Nevada, where few Northern Breed Dog rescue organizations are yet established.
We will reply via email within a few days once we receive your application. Please be patient as we are all volunteers with full time jobs, families, dogs of our own and often foster dogs to care for. Thanks for thinking of a rescue dog!
