Rescuing, Rehabilitating, and re-homing Malamutes and Northern Breed Dogs
About Us
We foster our dogs from our homes. We are growing, and we need foster homes and volunteers to help care for our charges. All too often we do end up assisting senior dogs that have been “dumped” in shelters or abandoned by their owners. Many of these older dogs don’t find their forever homes, but spend the rest of their lives in loving foster homes and become “Forever Fosters“. If you would like to help with MMR’s efforts, please see our Foster and Volunteer sections.
Moonsong Malamute Rescue, Inc. is organized exclusively for the purpose of rescuing, rehabilitating and permanently re-homing purebred Northern breed dogs and Northern mixed breed dogs. MMR is not a shelter or humane society. We are affiliated with the Alaskan Malamute Assistance League (AMAL), which is the national rescue organization recognized by the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. As an affiliate to AMAL, MMR operates under AMAL’s code of ethics.

Our Mission
is to identify and rescue Alaskan Malamutes that have been abused, neglected, abandoned or surrendered by their owners to MMR or to a shelter, or brought to shelters as strays in Idaho, Utah, N Nevada, Wyoming and Montana. We have been rescuing Malamutes for 20 years. We provide foster care and help with basic socialization and training to improve adoptability. Donated funds are primarily used to help provide medical care including vaccinations, spaying or neutering and facilitate adoption to approved permanent homes.
Community
Our Support
We offer educational material about the Alaskan Malamute breed, can assist in resolving containment issues, are able to help an owner with appropriately re-homing their Malamute when necessary, and provide behavioral issues support in the form of referrals to trainers and other more experienced Malamute owners. These funds are also used to help care for Malamutes with adoptable personalities who have been pulled from shelters, or who have been seized by authorities after having been abandoned, neglected, or abused.
Please note that it is our policy to only adopt to applicants from Idaho or our neighboring states of Montana, Wyoming, Utah and northern Nevada, where no Malamute rescue organization is yet established. If you are not within these 5 states, then please contact the Malamute rescue in your state where there are undoubtedly many rescue Mals in need of homes. Please see our affiliate rescues.
Our Volunteers
Our volunteers are one of our most cherished assets and we couldn't accomplish what we do without their help. Our volunteers help by fostering, transporting and assessing dogs and walking, grooming and networking them! And we have some wonderful supporters who help us with monthly donations. None of our volunteers or board of directors are paid - we are all volunteering our time and energy for the love of the breed and concern for the Mals in need.
