Questions on the dog

What is the cost to adopt a dog?

We ask for a donation fee of $250 for our Malamutes and the occasional Mal-a-nuff. Puppies (which we rarely get) are $300 with a $50 refund once proof of altering has been received. We also require a $50 deposit that will be refunded upon completion of contractual requirements associated with adoption.

What states do you adopt into?

Our policy is to only adopt to applicants from Idaho, or our neighboring states of Montana, Wyoming, Utah and northern Nevada, where no Malamute rescue organization is established.

IF I AM NOT IN YOUR SERVICE AREA WHO CAN I CONTACT?

The Alaskan Malamute Assistance League (AMAL) maintains a roster of rescue affiliates in the United States (and Canada); please use this link for access to that list.

I'm moving and cannot take my Malamute with me. My family member passed away and they have a Mal that needs rehomed. Can you help?

Please send an email to rescue@moonsongmals.org advising why your dog needs rehoming. Provide the age of the dog, if the dog is neutered or spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, description of health issues, if any. Please included pictures of the dog and the reason you need our assistance. One of our Board members will respond as soon as possible.

Do Malamutes make good emotion support animal?

Generally, Malamutes’ temperaments are not conducive to ESA training. Malamutes are strong willed and can be stubborn.

Why do you not allow families with children under 8 to adopt some of your dogs?

Please understand that this is not only for the safety of your children, but also for the safety of the dog. A large, strong, stubborn breed like the Malamute may not be the best choice for your family, no matter how beautiful they are.

Questions about our group

What is the best way to support Moonsong?

Our adoption donation fees cover only some basic vetting costs and micro-chips and in some cases the vetting costs far exceed our donation fee. All other expenses, such as boarding, food, supplements, medications, chewies, collars, leashes, bowls, dog houses, kennel panels, gasoline for transports and home checks, are paid for by our volunteers and foster homes or by donations to our rescue. Join our monthly donation program, Moonsong Musher’s Club, via PayPal. You will be bill each monthly for your subscribed donation amount.

Can I volunteer? Do you need volunteers?

Yes! We have dogs in local kennels that love to get outside for walks and hikes. Email rescue@moonsongmals.org for more information.

Where are you located?

Our Board of Director members live in Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah where the majority of our dogs are in kennels or foster homes.
