Hello! I’m Ackey (pronounced “ack-ee”), a beautiful female Malamute, and I’ll be turning 7 in June! I’m a big cuddle bug who absolutely adores my humans. I’m well past the crazy puppy phase, and now I’m looking for the perfect exercise buddy to help me achieve my weight loss goals. You see, after needing surgery last year, I wasn’t able to enjoy walks much, and I’ve put on a few extra pounds. But now that I’m almost completely healed, I’m ready to get back on track, and I’d love to have you by my side as we work together to get me to my goal weight! Slow, easy walks will be the key to our success.
A little more about me: I’ve had both of my hind legs surgically repaired for injuries, and I’m almost fully recovered from my most recent TPLO surgery. Now that I’m feeling better, I’m ready to get back out there and enjoy life with you!
I’m super treat-motivated (yum!), and I love searching for treats. My foster family says I’m very smart and learn quickly. I’ve already figured out my boundaries, and I’m easy to redirect if I’m doing something my humans don’t approve of. I’m also great about going into my crate when it’s time for quiet time—sometimes a girl just needs her beauty sleep!
Because I’m such a big girl, small animals aren’t a good fit for me. However, with the right introductions, I think I’d do well with a dog my size. That said, I’d also be perfectly happy being the only dog in the house if that’s what you’re looking for. Are you recently retired or just looking for a loyal companion to keep you company? In the not-too-distant future, I’ll need a new foster home or, even better, a forever home of my own. My caretakers have taken great care of me while I heal, but now I’m ready to find the family who will help me reach my full potential.
